Why God Allows Bad Things to Happen

Joh 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

There is evil in the fallen world:

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.
Job 1:7 The LORD said to Satan, "From where do you come?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it."

1Pe 5:8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

1Jn 5:18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
1Jn 5:19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

What is Deliverance? Deliverance is freedom from bondage.

Who is Deliverance for?

Mat 12:45 & Luke 11:26 tell us the condition of a man after deliverance will be worse than the first.

Mat 12:45 “Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first."

Who is called to deliverance?

Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners;

Joh 14:12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father."

If deliverance is for believers, and Christ’s work on the cross was perfect and complete, then why do so many born-again believers continue to live in bondage?

Bad Things Happen

Job 1:9 Then Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing?
Job 1:10 “Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
Job 1:11 “But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face."

Put Forth is shâlach and in context means to withdraw or pull back.

Satan has to get past God’s hedge of protection before bad things can happen.

Saul & The Evil Spirit of the Lord

1Sa 16:14 Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrorized him.
1Sa 15:23 “For rebellion is as the sin of divination, And insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king."

Types of People who Read/Study God’s Word

  • Landlubber – People who won’t go in the water.
  • Waders – People who will wade in ankle deep.
  • Swimmers – People who stay on the surface of the water.
  • Snorkelers – People who peer into the depths but stay on the surface.
  • Divers – People who deeply immerse themselves in the water.

What is a conditional statement?

Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

The inverse of a conditional statement is always true.

What is a conjunction?

A conjunction ties together two ideas or complete sentences. Some of the most common conjunctions in English are and, because, but, for, nor, so, until, when, and yet.

Joh 8:31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
Joh 8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

1. Are salvation and freedom conditional?
2. Is salvation and freedom one in the same?

Two conditional statements:

Rom 10:9 …if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart

John 8:31 If you continue in My word…

Is a captive person free? – No

Is a free person a captive? – No, otherwise they wouldn’t be free.

Joh 8:36 "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed."

Then, if whomever the Son sets free is free indeed, why do so many believers continue living in bondage?

Here are the big theology paragraphs of the evening…

Freedom from God’s law is not freedom to break His law. In God’s law is power over the fallen world and freedom is in the name of Jesus Christ.

God’s law governs what the dark kingdom can and cannot do and your choice to abide in or rebel against God’s word either grants or denies permission for evil to work in your life.

The Law that Binds:

Mat 18:18 "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."

This is something like a police officer arresting a suspect and putting handcuffs on them. The handcuffs bind the person’s movement, but the police officer is only enforcing the law. There must first be a law before it can be enforced. This verse provides the authority for binding, but what exactly is the law?

Mat 5:17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.
Mat 5:18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

The Word of God is the law. It is the word of the Creator Himself and Christ fulfilled the law perfecting it filling it with His authority.

Conclusion:

Why do so many believers continue to live in bondage? Through their choices they have rebelled against God’s word and given permission to evil.

1Sa 15:23 "…Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king."

Rom 8:31 …If God is for us, who is against us?

Joh 8:31 "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

1Jn 5:18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

You have control over your choices. If you make a choice you can un-make that choice. If your choice gives evil permission to work in your life, you can take that choice away.

God’s word calls this renouncing.

Pro 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

A Simple Renouncement:

By the power and authority of the blood of Christ, I proclaim that I changed my mind and I cancel any and all permissions I gave to evil. By the authority in the name of Jesus, I proclaim evil has no permission to work in my life.
