The Work of the Chaplain 255x255 01TB - The Work of the Chaplain

Course Number: CC 5167-30
Title: The Work of the Chaplain
Author: Naomi K. Pager & Janet R. McCormack
Category: Christian Counseling
TB - Text Book Course
Credit Hours: 3hrs

An ideal starting point for all, including seminarians, who are exploring a call to chaplaincy ministry. Unlike most other books in this field which are specific to one form of chaplaincy and are often written from an autographical viewpoint only, this new resource meets a critical need for an introductory and overview look at chaplaincy in general.

About the Authors

Naomi Kohatsu Paget is a board certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains and crisis interventionist for the FBI, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, and American Red Cross. She is the author of Disaster Relief Chaplaincy (North American Mission Board) and also has broad chaplain experience in the workplace, parish, healthcare, community, and law enforcement arenas.

Janet Rae McCormack is a board certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains and an American Baptist Churches USA minister. She serves as director of the Chaplaincy and Counseling Training Centers, and is assistant professor of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Counseling at Denver Seminary. A retired Air Force chaplain, she has extensive experience in military, hospital, police, prison, NASCAR, crisis, trauma, and industrial chaplaincy.

Solution Focused v2 TmbTB - Solution-Focused Pastoral Counseling

Course Number: CC 5165-30
Title: Solution-Focused Pastoral Counseling
Author: Charles Allen Kollar
Category: Christian Counseling
TB - Text Book Course
Credit Hours: 3hrs

This groundbreaking book, now updated and expanded, furthers its original, effective, time-saving approach that benefits pastors overtaxed by counseling demands. Dr. Charles Kollar presents a departure in pastoral counseling, showing that counseling need not be long-term or depend on psychological manipulation to produce dramatic results. In most cases, the solution lies with the counselees themselves. Using the tested methods found in Solution-Focused Pastoral Counseling, pastors, apart from counselors, will be well equipped to help their counselees discover a solution and put it in motion speedily and productively. SFPC is short-term---typically one to five sessions, in which the counselor seeks to create solutions with---not for---the counselee. The focus is on the possibility of life without the problem through an understanding of what is different when the problem does not occur or is less intrusive. The goal is healthy change, sooner rather than later, by helping the counselee see and work on the solution with God's activity already present in his or her life. The solution-focused approach does not require the counselor to be a highly trained psychological expert. It requires biblically based sensitivity and common sense. Yet this approach also recognizes its limitations and understands that there are situations in which other professional and/or medical help is required.
