Proverbs 25:2: It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

Word Power

Spoken words carry power.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

The Bible

  • The Bible has 783,137 words. (KJV)
  • The Bible was written by 40 different writers.
  • The Bible was written over 2,000 years.
  • The Bible contains 66 books: 39 OT & 27 NT.
  • From end-to-end the Bible is an integrated message system delivering God’s plan of redemption for man.

Com-Sec (Communications Security)

  • My background required me to hold a Top Secret security clearance.
  • I was trained in communications security.
  • COM-SEC demands you never put all information in a single location.
  • For security, it is spread out so if a small part is compromised, the whole message survives.
  • God spread out His message from Genesis to Revelation.
A little here and a little there – precept upon precept
      • Isaiah 28:13 So the word of the LORD to them will be, "Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there,"
  • Not one dot or tittle shall pass
Matthew 5:18  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

The Whole Word of God

  • An understanding of a biblical concept is not always found in one place, rather doctrine is supported by multiple appearances.
  • Doctrine cannot be built on a single appearance.
    • Psalms 91:4  He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust
    • The Bible says God is a bird.
  • In his book, The Banner of Sovereign Grace Truth, E. W. Bullinger identifies 217 figures of speech in the Bible.
    • These include common uses such as: simile, metaphor, hyperbole, analogy, allegory, and symbolism, as well as lesser known figures such as Idioms, Enigmas, and Circumlocution just to name a few.
  • When reading words in the Bible, the literal sense is preferred.
    • The Golden Rule: If the literal sense, makes good sense, seek no other sense, less you have no sense.

Words Are Weighted Differently

  • A word spoken by an acquaintance carries less weight than a word spoken by an authority figure.
  • A word spoken by a parent
  • A word spoken by a teacher
  • A word spoken by a spouse
  • A word spoken by an employer
  • A word spoken over yourself

Words Are Accountable

Mat 12:36-37 "But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

Where Do Curses Come From?
  • God created curses & blessings (See the course Blessing or Curse)
    • Parental Discipline
      • A Blessing is a reward
      • A Blessing is a reward
  • Satan Corrupted Curses
    • What better way to torment God’s children than to trick them through lies and deceit into cursing themselves.

Word Curse Exercise

A word curse is most often future tense.

Exercise #1: Identify the Curse
  • 1 – Every time I tried to solve that puzzle, I failed.
  • 2 – I have never finished that puzzle.
  • 3 – I’ll never solve that puzzle.

Exercise #2: Identify the Curse
  • 4 – I’m not looking forward to the job interview. They’ll probably hire someone else anyway.
  • 5 – I’m not looking forward to the job interview. I’ll never get hired.
  • 6 – I’m not looking forward to the job interview. Three employers have already passed me by.

Exercise #3: Identify the Curse
  • 7 – Writing a book is so much harder than I expected.
  • 8 – Writing this book is so hard, I’ll never get it finished.
  • 9 – I never expected writing a book would be so difficult.

Word Curses
  • Generational Curses are inherited. Word curses are acquired.
  • Word curses need fertile soil.
  • Word curses that grow deep roots are received.
    • Example: Sammy already feels rejected and then his parents threaten to “send him away” if his behavior doesn’t change.
    • In this case, the curse is in agreement with how Sammy already feels.
  • Some word curses do not take root.
    • Joan is the new valedictorian at her high school. When she is told she’ll never amount to anything, the curse falls away as she is already experiencing success.
  • Examples of Word Curses:
    • “You’ll never get that right.”
    • “You’ll never amount to anything.”
    • “You’re so dumb, you couldn’t pour water out of a boot with the instructions written on the heel.”
    • “If you had half a brain, it would die of loneliness.”
    • “Why don’t you use your head for something other than a hat rack?”

The Curse Wheel
  • Out of the heart come the things that defile the man.
    • Mat 15:19-20 "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. "These are the things which defile the man..."
  • As a man believes in his heart so he is
    • Pro 23:7 For as he thinks within himself, so he is.
  • What a man speaks reveals what is in his heart.
    • Mat 12:34 "...For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.”
  • Faith comes by hearing – Do we hear the words we speak?
    • Rom 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
    • We hear the words we speak and build faith in the lies and curses which reinforces what is in the heart.
  • As a man believes in his heart, so he is.
    • Pro 23:7 For as he thinks within himself, so he is.
  • And round and round and round she goes...

Breaking the Cycle
  • If the Sword of the Spirit was a gun, then God’s Words are the gun’s bullets.
  • Learn to recognize the moments you speak Satan’s words and substitute God’s words.
    • Your words will be unique.
    • Re: No Weapon “formed...”
  • Rebuke and cancel a spoken word as soon as you hear it and substitute God’s words in its place.
    • John 15: 1, 5 – The vine verses counter lies of stagnation and poverty.
    • Romans 8:1 – No condemnation counters condemning words.
    • 1 John 5:18 – You are born of God and the evil one cannot touch you.
    • John 10:10 – Promises a full life. Again counters accusation, condemnation, & unworthiness
    • Hebrews 6:19 – Hope is the anchor of the soul.
    • Jeremiah 17:14 – Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed. Stand-fast in faith.
    • Ephesians 6:13 – Stand firm in the day of evil.
    • 1 Corinthians 16:13 – Be on the alert – stand firm in the faith.
    • John 10:28 – Reminds us that we are protected—the enemy’s weapons cannot touch us.
    • Romans 8:31 – If God is with us, who is against us?
    • Psalms 37:23-24 – The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.

Put On The Armor of God
  • Practice dressing in the Armor of God each and every day.
    • Example: The Helmet of Salvation — The Word of God tells me to put on salvation as a helmet, and for a helmet, to wear the hope of salvation. I take the helmet of salvation and I put it on, and its hope reminds me I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. That to have faith is to be sure of the things I hope for, so that I hold firmly to the hope placed before me. My hope is in the living God.
