Acts 1:5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is essential. It is something Jesus wanted all his disciples to have.
Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."
Jesus wanted His disciples to have power when they witnessed for Hm. The same can be said for Christians today.
A Christian witness is a representative of Christ. However, you cannot effectively represent Christ unless you move into the supernatural because that is what Jesus did.
Jesus ministered in obedience to the Holy Spirit:
John 12:49 - 50 "For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak."I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me."
Jesus modeled the life of a spirit-filled Christian. It is up to us to follow his example.
The only way to follow Jesus's example is to hear what God is saying, and you cannot do that unless you can discern the Holy Spirit.
By discerning the Holy Spirit, a witness for Christ can minister with supernatural signs.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit gives the power to be an effective witness for Christ.
The baptism Holy Spirit gives you the ability to be led by the Spirit.
In this passage, you see a powerful example of born again Christians getting filled with the Holy Spirit:
Acts 8:14 -16 Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
The apostles knew that new believers needed to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
We are obedient to the requirements of God when we walk by the Holy Spirit.
To walk by the Holy Spirit, you must be able to discern what is of him and what is not.
God placed all His commandments and requirements within us when we became filled with the Holy Spirit.
An old testament prophecy about the future for believers:
Jeremiah 31:33 "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My Law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
To be obedient to God in the old covenant, you must adhere to a stringent set of external laws known as the Law of Moses.
In the new covenant, the Law of God is written within our hearts. Therefore, to be obedient to God means to be obedient to the voice of the Holy Spirit that is residing within you.
1 Cor 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Our flesh or natural man looks for the logical and practical things we can see. Looking for God on the outside by obeying external rules is logical and reasonable, but it is a fleshly activity described by God in the New Testament.
Rom 8:6 -7 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the Law of God, for it is not even able to do so,
When we became filled with the Holy Spirit, God gave us a choice:
