  • This six-week series is an International College of Ministry course for Theology, Ministry, and Christian Counseling majors.

The book of Hebrews compares and contrasts Jesus to key historical people and events from the Hebrew Bible. Through these comparisons, we see His superiority. He is greater than the angels, the Torah, Moses, the promised land, earthly priests, sacrifices, and the covenant.

The main theme of the epistle is the doctrine of the person of Christ and his role as mediator between God and humanity.

Hebrews clearly lays out the present priestly ministry of Christ in the life of the believer. Jesus is both the divine Son of God and completely human, and in His priestly role He clears the way for human beings to approach the Father in heaven. The priesthood of Jesus is superior to the Old Testament priesthood of Aaron, because only through Jesus do we receive eternal salvation. Furthermore, Jesus became the permanent and perfect High Priest, going beyond all other priests by offering Himself as a sinless sacrifice on behalf of the sins of human beings.

The letter to the Hebrews makes clear that only one Person deserves to hold the primary place in our lives. No matter what we strive to do in the world, there is nothing or no one that can offers us a better position, a better priest, a better covenant, a better hope, a better sacrifice and a better redemption the than Lord Jesus Christ. Only when we give Jesus His rightful place in our lives will everything else in life fall into its rightful place.

This course is presented by Dr. Barry E. Slimm, Lead Pastor of Faith Covenant Church, Quakertown, PA and ICM Dean of Academics.
